Q&A WITH JESSICA

WHY ARE YOU AN ENTREPRENEUR?

While not exactly a traditional entrepreneur,  throughout my career leading non-profit organizations, I have taken on an entrepreneur-like role, doing a bit of just about everything to help the companies I’ve worked with succeed. And that is one of the things I love most about the world of entrepreneurship – being in a position where no day looks the same and where I can turn the spark of an idea into something big.

WHAT CAN A FELLOW LEARN FROM YOU?

Because of the way my career progressed, I was fortunate to learn a lot about every different facet of running a business. I know how to manage the finances, hire and lead a team, write the strategic plans, plan, execute and emcee the events, and everything in between. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn so much in a relatively short period of time, and I’m looking forward to passing that on.

WHAT WILL YOUR FELLOW BE EXPOSED TO?

NY Tech Meetup is still a small organization (just two staff), so that means that everyone gets to do a bit of everything. As a fellow, you’ll gain experience in the areas of fundraising, event planning and production, membership management, content management, social media, and managing a website.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OUT OF A FELLOW?

We expect an open mind, lots of curiosity, a positive spirit and integrity. We’d love someone who believes in making an impact on the world through the work that they do.

WHAT MAKES YOUR STARTUP UNIQUE?

We are unique because we aren’t just a single startup, we are an organization that represents hundreds of startups and thousands of members of the tech community throughout the city. We are here to help make the tech community in the city sustainable and diverse, and to see the benefits of tech reach ever corner of our city.
