Q&A WITH BRIAN

WHY ARE YOU AN ENTREPRENEUR?

I decided to start my own company because it was the best way to have an impact on the rest of the world. Solving real, meaningful problems requires a combination of identifying user needs, finding the right people for your team, and delivering a solution to the market. It’s exciting to come into work knowing that this company is changing lives every day.

WHAT CAN A FELLOW LEARN FROM YOU?

A fellow will learn how an early stage startup functions from the ground level. They’ll be exposed to a variety of functions such as fundraising, product design & development, recruiting, marketing, project management, and team building. Since we’re still an early stage startup, I’m involved in not only the day to day operations but also the formation of the vision and strategy for the company. Fellows will learn how the product gets financed, designed, developed, and shipped from start to finish.

WHAT WILL YOUR FELLOW BE EXPOSED TO?

Fundraising, product management, PR, marketing, recruiting

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OUT OF A FELLOW?

Above all else, I expect a fellow to be eager to learn and to seek ways to apply their knowledge to the business. They should form a feedback loop where they take their experiences and learnings and let those fuel creative ways to add value to Fitocracy. To make this work, they need to ask a lot of questions, develop a strong understanding of the business, and take the initiative to contribute. Beyond that, I expect them to be very strong communicators, to take their work seriously, and to treat Fitocracy like its their own baby.

WHAT MAKES YOUR STARTUP UNIQUE?

Fitocracy is sparking a community movement across the world where normal people are getting empowered to find success with fitness. Our users are building relationships with each other in very profound ways and these social bonds have been the key to helping nearly a million people find the motivation, knowledge, and guidance to improve their lives. Beyond that, our team lives out our mission every day. Fitness is a huge part of our culture even though we’re all pretty much nerds and geeks. In fact, our iOS engineer only started working out a few months ago and he’s now squatting over 300lb and deadlifting over 400lb
